Hi all,
What did everyone else think about Turkey's performance? The song was dire,
but the actual concert was the most amateur I have seen for years. The two
presenters struggled to go through the entire show often making it look
unrehearsed and extremely unprofessional. The introductions to the songs
were clearly paid for by the Tourism Ministry and were way too blatant to be
effective (Turkey should have looked to Sweden 1998 to how to do it
properly). As for the crowd, well they are a disgrace to the European
continent, booing whenever they were awarded less than four points.
However, I reserve most of my criticism for the "half-time" entertainment
which was a dire massacre of Riverdance mixed with some weird Turkish
dancing. Anyone voting for Turkish entries in future should realise that
this debacle of producing a Eurovision concert could well be repeated in
subsequent years. Never again must Eurovision be allowed to be turned into
such a farce.
As for the songs, I thought it would be Ukraine, Greece, Sweden and then
Albania so I wasn't completely and utterly wrong. I am glad Ukraine won it
as they had the best song, but I am concerned about the increase in
locational voting. The UK, was as ever, fairly poor but picked up a few
points so it wasn't a repeat of the catastrophe last year.
Here's to Kiev 2005 (and please don't ask for help from the Turkish
producers)
